When Bo graduated from Chalmers University in Gothenburg, his construction and design projects consisted mainly of environments and castings for public places.

Around 1987, when his growing family required a changing table, he struggled to find something that suited his needs. Bo then came up with a prototype but struggled to find a market.

I showed it to some potential customers, but they didn’t understand the idea […] and the milling machines I needed to make it didn’t exist. – Bo Ekstrom

More than a decade later, Bo was encouraged to revisit the idea and it has been improving the lives of new families ever since, gaining him recognition in several international fairs.

Now, Bo’s day consists of drawings of ideas, prototyping in his very own wood, metal and plastic workshop, and discussions with clients and distributers worldwide. To assist him with all of this, Bo has brought in a variety of talented employees.

More recently, Bo has been travelling across Europe. He encourages travel and literature as energising and idea generating. His intention, now, is to grow his range to include functional furniture for children.

Min ambition är att göra saker som fungerar väl. Jag gör aldrig former bara för att vara vackra utan de ska alltid också fungera ihop med människan. Basidén med form och funktion fyller ett behov hos människor. – Bo Ekstrom

Roughly translated Bo is saying: “My ambition is to do things that work well. I never produce a form just to be beautiful, it must always interact well with the user. The basic idea of form and function is to fill the need of the individual.”

  1. His wall mounted baby change tables retail at about AU$599 and comply with European standard CEN 12221. It features a sleek Scandinavian design and eco-friendly lacquer, and is available in Whitewash, White, Beech and Walnut. However, customers have commented that aside from some joinery components like screws being missing, the main issue is the mounting ability. It is designed to be mounted onto the studs of the wall structure, but depending on the varying spacing between studs, based on your country, it does make it incredibly complicated. I am unsure as to whether these concerns have been resolved.
