For anyone who hasn’t seen these recently across social media, let me present to you the GoSun Stove and the 3Doodler. These two products are great examples of technological advancement. Technology is slowly becoming more and more accessible as it shrinks down and becomes cheaper to manufacture. These two products are now becoming an everyday item and I am hoping to add both to my own lifestyle. Let’s start with the American-made GoSun Stove.
The shape of the reflectors maximises the solar heat collected from the sunlight allowing any food product to be cooked in less than 20minutes no matter what the weather is like. This means there is no need for any other energy source and it is entirely portable so it can be taken to remote areas of the world where things such as electricity are non-existent. Starting from only US$65 (Approximately AUS$85 plus postage), this makes a huge difference to the lives of thousands of people.
The 3doodler is a 3D printing pen that works similar to a hot glue gun. The plastic is inserted in one end, heated and dispensed at the other end. Just like the glue gun, the 3doodler plastic is hot but after a short time can be manipulated and additional plastic is used to weld pieces together. Videos available on their site allow an insight into some of the complications of it’s design which are similar to those associated with a hot glue gun including clogging. The glue from a got glue gun requires additional material to be inserted in order to keep the material dispensing at a consistent rate. The same goes for the 3doodler. However, hot glue guns have been incredibly useful from an arts and design standpoint and I expect the 3doodler to become my new favourite tool. Just to make it even more attractive, the new 3doodler 2.0 can be pre-ordered from their site for just US$100 (approximately AUS$130 plus postage).
